Deze video vertrekt vanuit mijn oude buurt in Den Haag Zuidwest, waar ik ben geboren. Hier is armoede niet direct zichtbaar op straat. Het leven lijkt rustig en normaal, maar veel speelt zich af achter ramen en gesloten deuren.
Door beelden van de wijk te combineren met uitspraken over economische groei, ontstaat een spanning tussen twee verhalen: het optimistische verhaal van cijfers en het alledaagse leven waarin armoede juist toeneemt. De video stelt de vraag: voor wie groeit de economie eigenlijk?

In the news we constantly hear that the economy is growing and that things are going well. Statistics and graphs present a story of progress. Yet behind these narratives of economic growth, another reality exists.
This video begins in Den Haag Zuidwest, the neighborhood where I was born. Here, poverty is not immediately visible in the streets. Everyday life appears calm and ordinary, but much remains hidden behind windows and closed doors.
By combining images of the neighborhood with public statements about economic growth, the video creates a tension between two narratives: the optimistic language of economic success and the lived reality in which poverty continues to grow. The work asks a simple question: who is this economic growth actually for?
